Interesting Facts and Statistics:

As of 2009, lifetime Ecstasy use increased significantly among individuals aged 12 years or older, from 4.3 percent (10.2 million) in 2002 to 5.7 percent (14.2 million) in 2009

With snorting cocaine, the usual ritual is to place a line of coke, about 0.3 cm wide by 2.5 cm long, on a smooth surface. The finely divided powder is then snorted (inhaled quickly) into a nostril through a plastic or glass straw or a rolled currency bill. This ritual is usually repeated within a few minutes using the other nostril.

In 2008, an estimated 20.1 million Americans aged 12 or older were current (past month) illegal drug users, meaning they had used an illegal drug during the month prior to the survey interview. This estimate represents 8.0 percent of the population aged 12 years old or older. Illegal drugs include marijuana/hashish, cocaine (including crack), heroin, hallucinogens, inhalants, or prescription type psychotherapeutics used nonmedically.

Most teens aged 12 to 17 believed their parents would "strongly disapprove" of their using substances. In 2006, 91.4 percent of teens aged 12 to 17 reported that their parents would strongly disapprove of their smoking one or more packs of cigarettes per day. A majority of teens (90.4 percent) reported that their parents would strongly disapprove of their trying marijuana or hashish once or twice, and 89.6 percent reported their parents would strongly disapprove of their having one or two drinks of an alcoholic beverage nearly every day. These rates of perceived parental disapproval in using substances in 2006 were similar to those reported in 2005.

The rule of thumb that is not often followed in the medical community is that Xanax was developed as a temporary solution in the treatment of anxiety disorders; the problem is that it is generally used in such cases on a long term basis and addiction occurs.

Illegal drug use also was associated with the level of alcohol use. Among teens who were heavy drinkers in 2001, 65.3 percent also were current illegal drug users, whereas among nondrinkers, the rate was only 5.1 percent.
