Do you or someone you care about live in Banner Elk, North Caroli
an and have an addiction to drugs or alcohol? Have you failed at trying to help someone with drug or alcohol addiction in Banner Elk and have lost all hope? Drug and alcohol addiction are an epidemic in our society today. Someone who is addicted to drugs or alcohol is just existing, not living. This can be a very sad and depressing existence to say the least. But all is not lost, and there are ways to treat addiction that actually work. The way out can be found at a Drug Treatment or Alcohol Rehabilitation Facility in Banner Elk that will suit your treatment needs.
The reason a Drug Treatment or Alcohol Rehab Center in Banner Elk works for the treatment of drug addiction and alcoholism is because the individual will learn to overcome problems in life by confronting them, not by numbing them with drugs and alcohol. Once the individual starts confronting and handling life situations, they realize that they can actually cope with their problems and don't feel the need to compound them with drugs or alcohol.
Each individual is different, and there are a variety of treatment programs available in Banner Elk to cater to individual needs. For example, there are Outpatient Drug Rehabs, Short-term Drug Rehabilitation, Long-term Rehab Centers, Inpatient Drug Rehabilitation, support group meetings, drug counseling, halfway houses and sober living.
The two main aspects of addiction, physical and psychological, are what the individual will be addressing during the course of treatment at a Drug Rehab or Alcohol Rehabilitation Facility in Banner Elk. Individuals will first begin by addressing the aspect of physical addiction by taking part in a detoxification program in Banner Elk, North Carolina, which will help with the uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms that ensue when a person stops using drugs or alcohol. The brain adapts to the use of a psychoactive substance over time, which lessens the effect of the drug. This is how physical tolerance to drugs such as heroin, amphetamines, cocaine, nicotine and alcohol develops. This is why someone using drugs has to take more and more of the substance to get the same effect. Abruptly stopping substance use is what causes the uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms could last for days, weeks or even months depending on the individual's history of abuse. Hardcore drugs such as heroin have a particularly long and painful withdrawal period.
Right off the bat, an Alcohol Rehabilitation or Drug Treatment Facility in Banner Elk will get the individual started on a professional detoxification accompanied by psychological counseling. At the root of the individual's addiction to drugs or alcohol are these psychological issues. Once addressed, the individual's chances of relapse are decreased markedly.
Due to the structured environment and comprehensive program that a Drug Rehab or Alcohol Treatment Facility in Banner Elk, NC. offers, it truly is the most successful method for treating drug and alcohol addiction. There is no stone left unturned, every area where the individual is having problems in life will be addressed.
As part of treatment in Banner Elk, NC., the individual will be trained on how to react appropriately to situations in life and how to change his behavior patterns. Staff of a Drug Rehabilitation or Alcohol Treatment Facility in Banner Elk will work with the individual on how to respond to his environment, friends, family etc. when he returns home upon completion of treatment. It is expected that the individual will be able to appropriately handle the things which may have initially triggered his drug use. If not, these influences may produce psychological stressors which can cause the person to relapse. That is why professional treatment to address these psychological stressors is such an important aspect of the individual's recovery.
After having discontinued use of drugs or alcohol, research has shown that an addict's brain changes the ways it functions and responds to situations. This is yet another reason it is vital to seek professional help at an Alcohol Treatment or Drug Rehab Center in Banner Elk, NC., instead of trying to stop on one's own. There is so much for an addict to overcome to achieve sobriety. It is no easy task, even with help. Seeking help at a Drug Treatment or Alcohol Rehab Facility in Banner Elk, NC. is an addict's best bet for a successful recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. If you or someone you know is ready for a new life free of drugs and alcohol, find out what treatment options are available at an Alcohol Rehabilitation or Drug Rehab Program in Banner Elk. No time is better than the present to end the cycle of addiction and all of the destruction that it creates. Help is waiting for you or someone you love today.

Did You Know? ... Interesting Facts and Statistics:
Psychotherapeutics include the nonmedical use of any prescription-type pain relievers, tranquilizers, stimulants, or sedatives. Over-the-counter substances are not included. In 2005, there were 2.5 million persons aged 12 or older who used psychotherapeutics nonmedically for the first time within the past year. The numbers of new users of specific psychotherapeutics in 2005 were 2.2 million for pain relievers, 1.3 million for tranquilizers, 647,000 for stimulants, and 247,000 for sedatives. These estimates are similar to the corresponding estimates for 2004.
Among adults aged 18 or older, the rate of past month alcohol use increased with increasing levels of education. Among adults with less than a high school education, 36.5 percent were current drinkers in 2006, significantly lower than the 67.3 percent of college graduates who were current drinkers. However, among adults aged 26 or older, binge and heavy alcohol use rates were lower among college graduates (19.1 and 5.4 percent, respectively) than among those who had not completed college (22.3 vs. 6.2 percent, respectively).
OxyContin has become a popular drug over the past decade, and its mood altering effects has led to a significant increase in illegal usage.
Among the 2.5 million adults aged 18 or older with both SMI and substance dependence or abuse (i.e., a substance use disorder) in 2008, 60.5 percent received mental health care or substance use treatment at a specialty facility; 11.4 percent received both mental health care and specialty substance use treatment, 45.2 percent received only mental health care, and 3.7 percent received only specialty substance use treatment.
Among adults aged 26 or older, 6.1 percent reported current illegal drug use in 2006. In this age group, 4.2 percent used marijuana, and 2.2 percent used prescription type drugs nonmedically. Less than 1 percent used cocaine (0.8 percent), hallucinogens (0.1 percent), and inhalants (0.2 percent). The only significant change between 2005 and 2006 in the rates of past month use among adults in this age group involved heroin, which increased from 0.03 to 0.14 percent. Lifetime nonmedical use of OxyContin® among adults aged 26 or older increased from 0.9 percent in 2005 to 1.1 percent in 2006, and past year use of stimulants and heroin also increased (stimulants, from 0.6 to 0.9 percent; heroin, from 0.1 to 0.2 percent).
Methadone can be prescribed by a doctor for pain relief, but it can only be described for addiction treatment by physicians working in unison with methadone clinics.
