Methadone is generally taken orally and is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream from the gastrointestinal tract within thirty minutes of being ingested. Methadone is also quickly distributed to body tissues where it is stored and then released into the plasma. This method of storage and release allows the patient to remain comfortable, free from craving and feeling stable for a long period of time.
