Interesting Facts and Statistics:

Ambien abuse should be taken very seriously and treated like any other type of substance abuse. The proper counseling needs to be obtained in order to get help for this problem and to keep it from becoming life threatening.

Most babies of heroin users suffer from withdrawal symptoms after birth, including fever, sneezing, trembling, irritability, diarrhea, vomiting, continual crying and, occasionally, seizures. Babies exposed to heroin before birth also face an increased risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

The number of persons needing treatment for a substance use problem in 2005 (23.2 million) was not statistically different from the numbers reported since 2002. Similarly, the number of persons needing but not receiving treatment in 2005 (20.9 million) was similar to the numbers since 2002. The number of persons receiving specialty treatment in 2005 was essentially the same as the estimates in 2004 and 2002 (2.3 million in these 3 years), but it was higher than the number in 2003 (1.9 million).

If a dependent user reduces or stops use of the drug abruptly, they may experience severe symptoms of withdrawal. These symptoms, which can begin as early as a few hours after the last drug administration, include restlessness, muscle and bone pain, insomnia, diarrhea and vomiting, cold flashes with goose bumps ("cold turkey"), kicking movements ("kicking the habit"), and other symptoms. Users also experience severe craving for the drug during withdrawal, precipitating continued abuse and/or relapse.

Teens aged 12 to 17 were asked a number of questions related to the extent of support, oversight, and control that they perceived their parents exercised over them in the year prior to the survey. In 2008, among teens aged 12 to 17 enrolled in school in the past year, 79.3 percent reported that in the past year their parents always or sometimes checked on whether or not they had completed their homework, and 70.2 percent reported that their parents limited the amount of time that they spent out with friends on school nights. Both of these rates reported in 2008 were similar to those reported in 2007 and remained statistically unchanged from the rates reported in 2002. However, in 2008, 80.0 percent reported that their parents always or sometimes provided help with their homework, which was similar to the rate in 2007 (80.9 percent) but was lower than the rate in 2002 (81.4 percent).

There is a percentage of the population will choose to take more Ambien than the necessary dose deliberately to get high. It is recommended that users that have been prescribed the drug that have a tendency towards substance abuse give additional tablets to a friend for safe keeping.
