An individual in Blair County, which is located in the northern portion of the United States, reported that a man called a cab and proceeded to pull a knife on the cab driver and rob him; the robber, after being apprehended, disclosed to the police that he needed the money because he was addicted to bath salts.
In 2000 law enforcement authorities in Maine dismantled a drug ring accused of obtaining OxyContin by forging prescriptions, having them filled at pharmacies in southern Maine and New Hampshire, and covering the costs with their Medicaid cards.
Among persons aged 12 or older in 2007-2008 who used pain relievers nonmedically in the past 12 months, 55.9 percent got the drug they most recently used from a friend or relative for free.
