Driving under the influence of alcohol was associated with age in 2005. An estimated 8.3 percent of 16 or 17 year olds, 19.8 percent of 18 to 20 year olds, and 27.9 percent of 21 to 25 year olds reported driving under the influence of alcohol in the past year . Beyond age 25, these rates showed a general decline with increasing age.
According to the latest Monitoring the Future (MTF) study which is a survey of the Nations secondary schools, students in the 8th grade regularly report the highest rate of past year, current, and lifetime inhalant use.
In 2008, adults aged 18 or older with past year MDE had higher rates of past year illegal drug use than those without MDE (27.2 vs. 13.0 percent). A similar pattern was observed for specific types of past year illegal drug use, such as the use of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, or hallucinogens and the nonmedical use of prescription-type psychotherapeutics.
In 2008, more than one fifth (23.3 percent) of persons aged 12 or older participated in binge drinking. This translates to about 58.1 million people, similar to the estimate in 2007. Binge drinking is defined as having five or more drinks on the same occasion on at least 1 day in the 30 days prior to the survey.

According to the American Association of Poison Control Centers, U.S Poison Centers have taken 1,196 calls regarding ?bath salts? already this year, up from 298 calls in 2010. Police in Scranton, Pennsylvania report that bath salts first appeared in the area in December. Since that time incidents related to ?bath salts? requiring police response have increased rapidly. In one high profile case, a man using ?bath salts? allegedly entered a monastery and stabbed a priest. Because ?bath salts? pose a clear threat to public health, I urge you to exercise DEA?s emergency authority under the Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984 to place MDPV and mephedrone in Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act for up to one year.? The Senator has since been publicly praised by his constituents for boldly confronting this important life-threatening issue.
