Did You Know? ... Interesting Facts and Statistics:
Vicodin is water soluble and because of this it is possible to extract some of the acetaminophen by crushing the tablets and allowing them to dissolve; addicts will sometimes then run this liquid through a coffee filter to remove most of the acetaminophen from the solution.
Chronic drug abuse ultimately leads to a multitude of problems, including significant problems in relationships, school, and family functioning. Ironically, the social, legal, physical, financial, and emotional effects of substance abuse are usually worse than the original problem that the user was trying to avoid or to cope with.
Those individuals who want to end their methadone addiction need an enormous amount of support as they continue along the road to recovery. A drug rehab program in an inpatient treatment center that lasts at least 90 days offers the best success rate for this type of drug addiction. This treatment approach will help the addict to develop new ways of dealing with the circumstances that may trigger a desire to use again.
In 1997 it was estimated that the number of current crack users in the U.S. was about 604,000, which does not reflect any significant change since 1988.
Teens aged 12 to 17 who believed their parents would strongly disapprove of their using substances were less likely to use that substance than were teens who believed their parents would somewhat disapprove or neither approve nor disapprove. For example, in 2008, past month cigarette use was reported by 6.7 percent of teens who perceived strong parental disapproval of their smoking one or more packs of cigarettes per day compared with 37.3 percent of teens who believed their parents would not strongly disapprove. Current marijuana use also was much less prevalent among teens who perceived strong parental disapproval for trying marijuana or hashish once or twice than among those who did not (4.3 vs. 29.8 percent, respectively).
It appears that compulsive cocaine use may develop even more rapidly if the substance is smoked rather than snorted.
