For some people, resisting the sedative effects helps them to feel the side-effect of euphoria more than sedation; others have reported decreased anxiety as well as perceptual changes, auditory/visual distortions and hallucinations.

The percentages of persons aged 12 or older with dependence on or abuse of illegal drugs remained the same between 2007 (2.8 percent) and 2008 (2.8 percent) and were stable between 2002 (3.0 percent) and 2008. During the 7 year period, the percentages of persons with dependence on or abuse of alcohol remained stable as well (7.7 percent in 2002, 7.5 percent in 2007, and 7.3 percent in 2008).
