Did You Know? ...
Interesting Facts and Statistics:

For opiate addicts, the beginning of treatment is detoxification, a controlled and medically supervised withdrawal from opiates. Detox by itself is not a solution, because most addicts will eventually resume taking the drug unless they get further help.

In terms of the various causes of drug addiction, it is not likely that anyone would ever begin to use drugs or alcohol with the intention of becoming addicted. Experimentation is often the first factor that draws many individuals to try drugs. They want to experience the "high," and the sense of euphoria that comes with drug use.

The percentage of eighth graders reporting crack cocaine use at least once in their lives increased from 2.7 percent in 1997 to 3.2 percent in 1998.

The rate of current illegal drug use among the population aged 12 or older in completely rural counties in 2006 (7.8 percent) was similar to that observed in 2002 (6.7 percent) and 2005 (5.1 percent) but higher than the rate in 2003 (3.1 percent) and 2004 (4.6 percent).

An individual's perception of the risks of substance use has been shown to be related to whether he or she actually uses the substance (e.g., Bachman, Johnston, & O'Malley, 1998). The national percentage of persons (aged 12 or older) perceiving a great risk of using marijuana once a month increased significantly between 2002 and 2003, from 38.3 to 39.6 percent (OAS, 2004c, Table 3.1B).

Treatment admissions for addiction to Meth doubled in the U.S. between 2000 and 2005.
