The number of past year LSD initiates among persons aged 12 or older was 338,000 in 2002, 200,000 in 2003, 235,000 in 2004, and 243,000 in 2005. The number of Ecstasy initiates in the past year was 1.2 million in 2002, 642,000 in 2003, 607,000 in 2004, and 615,000 in 2005. Most (65.9 percent) of the recent Ecstasy initiates in 2005 were aged 18 or older at the time they first used Ecstasy. Among past year initiates aged 12 to 49, the average age at initiation of Ecstasy in 2005 was 20.7 years.
Although the rate of past month illegal drug use was higher among unemployed persons compared with those from other employment groups, most drug users were employed.
