Among teens aged 12 to 17, the rate of substance dependence or abuse decreased between 2004 and 2005 from 8.8 to 8.0 percent. This decline was driven by a decrease in the rate of illegal drug dependence or abuse among teens aged 12 to 17 (5.3 to 4.7 percent). The rates of alcohol dependence or abuse were 6.0 percent in 2004 and 5.5 percent in 2005, but this was not a statistically significant change.

In Panama City, Florida, two incidents caused law enforcement there to be alerted to the drug?s serious effects. In one incident, several police officers were needed to subdue a man who tore a radar unit out of a police car with his teeth.
