These included an inability to afford treatment (41.5 percent), believing at the time that the problem could be handled without treatment (34.0 percent), not having the time to go for treatment (17.1 percent), and not knowing where to go for services (16.0 percent).
Drug addicts and alcoholics may find that they are able to sustain short periods of sobriety that will generally followed by a drug or alcohol relapse. This is why attending a drug or alcohol rehab treatment program will help the individual to maintain their focus on sobriety. With rare exception, it is only by getting intense long term professional help that individuals with severe drug addiction problems are able to achieve lasting sobriety.
Rates of illegal drug or alcohol dependence or abuse are associated with current employment status. This is the first year in which past year use of marijuana has been estimated at the State level. The State rankings for past year use are very similar to those for past month use. An estimated 10.8 percent of the national population aged 12 or older had used marijuana in the past year. Tennessee had the lowest rate (7.4 percent) of past year use of marijuana among persons aged 12 or older.
