Studies show that marijuana users have a 4.8-fold increase in the risk of heart attack in the first hour after smoking the drug.
A majority of teens aged 12 to 17 (91.0 percent) in 2007 reported that their parents would strongly disapprove of their trying marijuana or hashish once or twice. Current marijuana use was much less prevalent among teens who perceived strong parental disapproval for trying marijuana or hashish once or twice than for those who did not (4.6 vs. 28.1 percent).
Marijuana was the most commonly used illegal drug (14.6 million past month users). In 2005, it was used by 74.2 percent of current illegal drug users.
