Did You Know? ... Interesting Facts and Statistics:
In 2008, approximately one in nine teens aged 12 to 17 (11.1 percent) reported that they had participated in drug, tobacco, or alcohol prevention programs outside of school in the past year. This rate was similar to the 11.3 percent reported in 2007, but was lower than the rates reported in 2002 (12.7 percent) and 2003 (13.9 percent). The prevalence of past month use of illegal drugs, marijuana, cigarettes, or binge alcohol use among those who participated in these prevention programs outside of school was not significantly lower (8.9 percent, 5.6 percent, 8.0 percent, or 7.5 percent, respectively) than among those who did not (9.2 percent, 6.7 percent, 9.2 percent, or 8.9 percent, respectively).
The percentage of persons estimated to be dependent on illegal drugs in the past year was about 65 percent of those who were estimated to be dependent on or abused illegal drugs in the past year. State estimates for illegal drug dependence for persons aged 12 or older ranged from 1.6 percent in Iowa to 3.0 percent in the District of Columbia. The highest rates of illegal drug dependence were among persons aged 18 to 25, with the highest rate in Massachusetts (8.3 percent).
In the college aged population (persons aged 18 to 22 years old), the rate of current use of illegal drugs was lower among full time college students (19.2 percent) than among other persons aged 18 to 22 years, which includes part time college students, students in other grades, and nonstudents (22.6 percent). Current illegal drug use among college students and other 18 to 22 year olds did not change between 2005 and 2006.
If swallowed with alcohol, cocaine?s effects peak in 30 minutes and last about 3 hours.
Drug Intervention is a great and effective process in that it is able to reach a particular level of success no matter what the addicted person decides to do. If the addict ultimately chooses not to accept any help yet their family and friends obtain new coping skills, then it is still a small success.
The faster the absorption of cocaine, the more intense the high. The high from snorting may last 15 to 30 minutes, while that from smoking may last 5 to 10 minutes.
