Past month alcohol use was reported by 63.1 percent of full-time college students compared with 53.3 percent of their counterparts who were not currently enrolled full time. Binge and heavy use rates for college students were 42.5 and 18.2 percent, respectively, compared with 37.7 and 12.1 percent, respectively, for other persons aged 18 to 22.
In 2007, 3.1 million teens aged 12 to 17 (12.5 percent) received treatment or counseling for problems with behavior or emotions in the specialty mental health setting (inpatient or outpatient care).
