National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services (N-SSATS)
The National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services (N-SSATS) is an annual survey of facilities providing substance abuse treatment. It is conducted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The N-SSATS is designed to collect data on the location, characteristics, services offered, and number of clients in treatment at alcohol and drug abuse facilities.

In Pennsylvania, 449 substance abuse treatment facilities responded to the 2004 N-SSATS, reporting that there were 39,796 clients in substance abuse treatment on March 31, 2004. The survey response rate in Pennsylvania was 96%.

In Pennsylvania, 68% of the facilities surveyed focused primarily on substance abuse treatment services.

In Pennsylvania, 90% of the substance abuse problems being treated pertained to both alcohol and drug abuse.
