Between 2005 and 2007, there was an 11% increase in the number of Meth dependent users.
Among persons aged 12 to 49, the average age at first use of inhalants in 2005 was 16.1 years; it was 17.4 years for marijuana, 19.7 years for cocaine, 21.2 years for pain relievers, and 25.7 years for tranquilizers.
In 2006, 15.8 million adults (7.2 percent of persons aged 18 or older) had at least one MDE in the past year. After a statistically significant decline in the rate of past year MDE between 2004 and 2005 (8.0 and 7.3 percent, respectively), the rate of past year MDE was stable between 2005 and 2006.
Among the 5.1 million adults who reported an unmet need for mental health care and did not receive mental health services in the past year, several barriers to care were reported. These included an inability to afford care (42.7 percent), believing at the time that the problem could be handled without care (28.6 percent), not knowing where to go for care (19.8 percent), and not having the time to go for care (13.9 percent).
Opiates such as methadone are drugs that depress the nervous system; these types of drugs are known to slow down body functioning and reduce physical and psychological pain.
In 2008, past month marijuana use was reported by 2.3 percent of teens aged 12 to 17 who strongly or somewhat disapproved of their peers using marijuana once a month or more, lower than the 27.1 percent of teens who reported that they neither approve nor disapprove of such behavior from their peers.
