Did You Know? ...
Interesting Facts and Statistics:

Sudden heroin withdrawal by heavily dependent users who are in poor health can be fatal.

Some studies show that Ecstasy may be neurotoxic in humans.

An estimated 374,000 people entering an emergency room annually do so with a primary marijuana problem.

Rates of current use of illegal drugs in 2008 were higher for young adults aged 18 to 25 (19.6 percent) than for teens aged 12 to 17 (9.3 percent) and adults aged 26 or older (5.9 percent). Among young adults, 16.5 percent used marijuana in the past month, 5.9 percent used prescription type drugs nonmedically, 1.7 percent used hallucinogens, and 1.5 percent used cocaine.

Use of heroin in pregnancy also may increase the risk of a variety of birth defects. What is not entirely clear is whether these effects are directly due to the drug itself or related to the poor health behaviors that women who take heroin often have. It may also be caused by the substances that the heroin often is mixed with when it is made.

Within the last ten years, there has been much media attention given to the abuse of Xanax; the primary abuse of the drug has been well documented.
