Did You Know? ...
Interesting Facts and Statistics:

In 2005, the number of new nonmedical users of OxyContin? aged 12 or older was 526,000, with an average age at first use of 23.2 years among those aged 12 to 49. These estimates are similar to estimates for 2004 (615,000 and 22.9 years, respectively).

The percentage of teens reporting that it would be easy to obtain marijuana declined between 2002 and 2003, from 55.0 to 53.6 percent, and again between 2003 and 2004, to 52.2 percent. The percentage of teens reporting that LSD would be easy to obtain also decreased between 2002 and 2004, from 19.4 to 16.9 percent, as did the perceived availability of heroin (15.8 to 14.0 percent).

Methadone, which is a long-acting synthetic narcotic analgesic, was used for the first time as a maintenance treatment for treating drug addictions in the mid-1960s by Dr. Vincent Dole and Marie Nyswander of Rockefeller University.

Although adults aged 26 or older were less likely to be current drug users than teens aged 12 to 17 or young adults aged 18 to 25 (6.1 vs. 9.8 and 19.8 percent, respectively), there were more drug users aged 26 or older (11.4 million) than in the 12-to-17-year age group (2.5 million) and 18-to-25-year age group (6.5 million) combined.

Because heroin abusers do not know the actual strength of the drug or its true contents, they are at a great risk of overdose or death.

An individual's driving license is invalid on a methadone treatment program unless supportive medical advice is sent to the DVLA.
