San Luis Obispo, CaliforniaIntroduction to San Luis Obispo, California
The city of San Luis Obispo lies on the Central Coast of California, roughly halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles (each a little more than 200 miles away). Founded by Father Junipero Serra in 1772 and incorporated in 1856, the city was named after Saint Louis, a 13th Century Bishop of Toulouse, France (the city's name is the Spanish translation of "St. Louis, the Bishop"). Situated at the junction of U.S. Highway 101 and California State Highway 1 (the scenic Pacific Coast Highway), the city is the county seat of San Luis Obispo County.
Very much a college town, San Luis Obispo is home to California Polytechnic (Cal Poly) State University and also to Cuesta Community College. The City Council has had a college professor elected to it four times, and approximately one third of the city's population is of college age or attending college. Noted satirist and recording artist Weird Al Yankovic made his start by working as a DJ at the Cal Poly campus radio station while studying architecture at the university. His debut song, "My Bologna," was recorded in a bathroom stall on campus.
San Luis Obispo Arts & Entertainment
One of San Luis Obispo's main draws is Farmers' Market, a large outdoor festival held downtown every Thursday evening throughout the year. Created in 1983 as an outlet for the city's large collegiate population, the event features live entertainment and produce sold by local farmers and vendors.
Other city events include Cinco de Mayo celebrations and a standard Christmas Parade. The city has also been a stop on the route of the Olympic Torch and the Tour of California bicycle race. Focal point of the city's downtown area is the Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, originally built in the late 18th century and later carefully restored. Those attracted to the offbeat may appreciate San Luis Obispo's Bubble Gum Alley, on whose walls people have been sticking their chewed gum since 1960.
Several nearby attractions are within easy driving distance of San Luis Obispo. Just south of the city is Edna Valley, an area which has developed into a well-known wine region. Some of its wineries have won awards and acclaim for their vintages. Even more wineries can be found in the Paso Robles area, located about 30 miles north of San Luis Obispo. Located 43 miles to the north of San Luis Obispo is the very popular Hearst Castle, the spacious estate of famed publisher William Randolph Hearst. The city of Santa Maria, located 33 miles to the south, offers its own variety of local attractions, including the Museum of Flight, the Discovery Museum, and the Railway Historical Museum.
Sports enthusiasts can take a two-hour drive eastward along highway 58 to the city of Bakersfield where the Bakersfield Condors (East Coast Hockey League) play their games. Another pro team in this city is the Bakersfield Blaze (a Minor League baseball team and the Single-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers).

Do you have a problem with drug or alcohol addiction and live in San Luis Obispo, California? Are you concerned about a family member in San Luis Obispo, who has a problem like this? Whatever your situation it's easy to believe that you're alone with this . . . that, somehow, you have to solve the problem all on your own. That is not the case. We care about you - and will help you find an Alcohol Treatment or Drug Rehabilitation Facility in San Luis Obispo, suited to your specific treatment needs. You don't have to deal with drug addiction or alcoholism on your own!
A Drug Rehab or Alcohol Rehabilitation Facility in San Luis Obispo, is a good option for the treatment of drug addiction and alcoholism. The goal of a Drug Treatment or Alcohol Rehab Center in San Luis Obispo, CA. is to direct the initial treatment plan toward the ability of the individual to stop using drugs and/or alcohol and hence avoid the psychological, legal, financial, social, and physical consequences that are usually associated with drug addiction and alcoholism.
There are many different addiction treatment approaches such as Long-term Drug Rehab Facilities, Outpatient Rehabs, Short-term Addiction Recovery Facilities, Inpatient Drug Treatment, support group meetings, drug counseling, halfway houses and sober living.
Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Centers in San Luis Obispo, typically focus on the two-fold nature of drug addiction and alcoholism: physical and psychological addiction. Physical addiction can be treated by a detoxification program in San Luis Obispo, California with treatment procedure to assist with the painful withdrawal symptoms which manifest themselves when a person discontinues the consumption of a drug or drugs that they are addicted to. With habitual use of a psychoactive substance the brain gradually adapts to the presence of the drug so the desired effect becomes minimal. This is how physical tolerance develops to drugs such as heroin, amphetamines, cocaine, nicotine and alcohol to name a few. It also explains why more and more of the drug is needed to get the same effect with habitual use of an addictive drug. The abrupt cessation of an addictive drug can lead to serious withdrawal symptoms where the body may take weeks or months (depending on the drug involved) to return to normal function. The withdrawal symptoms from certain substances, such as heroin, can induce severe and painful withdrawal symptoms, and be quite prolonged.
An Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Center in San Luis Obispo, will not only provide the person with a professional detox but also provide a Drug Rehab or Alcohol Treatment Program for the psychological issues inevitably underlying all drug and alcohol addiction problems, so as to decrease the chances of relapse and increase the chances of a clean and sober life.
A Drug Rehab or Alcohol Rehabilitation Center in San Luis Obispo, CA. is more likely to be one of the most successful methods for treating an individual with a severe drug addiction problem. Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Facilities in San Luis Obispo, are designed to deliver a comprehensive treatment curriculum and assist a person in every facet of their life 24 hours a day.
For a person to make a successful recovery, they must acquire new knowledge, abilities and 'life skills'. This new knowledge, abilities and life skills must be directed toward strategies for returning home to San Luis Obispo, from an Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Facility and encountering old drug using acquaintances in San Luis Obispo - as well as ways to handle the many reminders and triggers of their past drug using days in San Luis Obispo. These triggers can produce memories which can produce psychological stressors. These psychological stressors often hinder the recovering addict, making it very difficult for them to feel as though they have control over their actions concerning drug using impulses. This is because research into the brain of addicts shows changes in the way their brain functions long after they have discontinued using drugs and/or alcohol. This is the main reason why even an individual with will power as strong as steel may find it extremely difficult to overcome drug addiction or alcoholism without professional addiction treatment. With so many obstacles such as triggers, drug cravings, and changes in the way their brain functions due to habitual drug use, it is no surprise why so many people attend an Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Program each year to successfully recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.
There are many reasons why a person should enroll into an Alcohol Rehabilitation or Drug Treatment Facility in San Luis Obispo. A few of the many reasons are: the inability to control or eliminate their drinking or drug use, alienating their friends and family, legal problems, severe depression and general unhappiness due to excessive drug or alcohol use.
