Santa Maria, CaliforniaIntroduction to Santa Maria, California
Located in the center of California's Central Coast in Santa Barbara County, the city of Santa Maria lies 270 miles south of San Francisco and 170 miles north of Los Angeles. It is one of three communities comprising the Santa Maria Valley, the others being the city of Guadalupe (9 miles to the west) and the unincorporated community of Orcutt (7 miles to the south). U.S. Route 101 runs through the city, and California State Highway 1 runs along the coastline to the west of the city. State Highway 166 provides the principal route eastward, eventually intersecting Interstate-5 in Bakersfield.
Incorporated in 1905, the city was originally called Grangerville (named after the town's first store, the Grange), then Central City. But in 1885, after it was discovered that local mail was mistakenly being routed to a city in Colorado with the same name, the city's name was changed (for the final time) to Santa Maria. In 1904, oil was discovered in the valley when an exploratory drilling a few miles south of the city of Santa Maria produced a huge gusher that was affectionately christened "Old Maud". For the next 80 years, the oil industry flourished but recent decades have seen a return to agriculture as the predominant natural force in the valley. Over the past 30 years, the Santa Maria Valley wine country has flourished as a major attraction, driving local tourism while attracting investment from Kendall-Jackson, Robert Mondavi, and other giants of the industry. The "Santa Maria Style Barbecue", whose origins go back 150 years to the early ranchos, has also become a signature attraction during this time. Other industries which have become predominant in recent years include aerospace (aided by the presence of nearby Vandenberg Air Force Base), communications, and high-tech research and development.

The ultimate goal of all Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Centers should be to enable the individual from Santa Maria, California to achieve lasting abstinence. Much research has indicated that in order for drug and alcohol addiction treatment to be effective, it must teach the individual how to change to their compulsive behaviors in order to remove the addiction and to be able to avoid a possible relapse. Overall, Alcohol Rehab or Drug Rehabilitation Facilities need to address both the physical and psychological dependency of an addiction; the behavioral and social symptoms also need to be adequately addressed before an individual from Santa Maria can have the tools that they will need to help sustain that recovery for the remainder of his or her life.
Drug detox is the first step in the Santa Maria, CA. rehabilitation treatment process toward recovery from a drug and alcohol addiction. The main goal in this component of the Santa Maria Drug Rehab or Alcohol Treatment Facility is to rid the body of toxins that accumulate over the course of a long term drug or alcohol addiction. It is very common to see individuals from Santa Maria, CA. in drug detox that has combined different drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin, or pain pills with alcohol.
When an individual from Santa Maria has sustained the use of any of these various kinds of drugs, it causes adaptations within their body that lessen the drug's original effects over time; this is a phenomenon that is known as drug tolerance. At this point, the individual from Santa Maria, California has developed a physical dependency on the substance and withdrawal symptoms will be experienced upon discontinuation. The reason that it is imperative that an individual from Santa Maria have professional supervision during the detox process is because the staff at a Drug Rehab or Alcohol Rehabilitation Program can help to make this process much easier by administering elements of treatment that can help to alleviate some of the painful withdrawal symptoms.
Once the early stages of withdrawal have passed, an individual from Santa Maria will then be able to begin a directed, Alcohol Rehabilitation or Drug Rehab Facility that will begin to address aspects of the psychological dependency by teaching behavioral skills that will help them to function without the use of alcohol or drugs. This component in drug recovery treatment will usually involve some type of individual or group counseling. There may also be occupational and behavioral therapies that are utilized as components of treatment in order to help to teach the individual from Santa Maria, CA. life and social skills that may have been lost while they were under the influence of addiction.
Before an addict is finally willing to surrender to the Drug Treatment or Alcohol Rehab Facility process, they may have already made repeated promises to their loved ones in Santa Maria who have been experiencing the negative effects from the individual's drug or alcohol abuse; because of the way that these substances chemically alter the person's brain, these empty promises cannot be fulfilled. If loved ones in Santa Maria, California continue to believe these empty promises, it could possible mean that the addicted person will then have time to overdose on drugs or have a serious car accident while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
In an Alcohol Rehab or Drug Treatment Program, the individual from Santa Maria will become educated about the ways that drugs and alcohol affect the various functions of the brain; they will learn that it was these physiological changes that made it almost impossible for them to stop using on their own, and not personal integrity. As an individual from Santa Maria, CA. learns more about how to deal with drug triggers and as they master to the tools that they will need to use in order to stay sober when they return home to Santa Maria, they will become confident in their ability to do so.
