Methadone was first marketed during World War II under the brand name Dolophine and was used as an analgesic for the treatment of severe pain. Methadone is currently being used and by doctors for pain relief in patients who do not have insurance, as it is much cheaper than any other prescription pain pill on the market today.
Heroin withdrawal begins as early as a few hours after the drug was last used. The body needs time to recover, and heroin withdrawal symptoms result. Heroin withdrawal can occur whenever any chronic use is discontinued or reduced. Users also experience severe craving for the drug during withdrawal, precipitating continued abuse and/or relapse.
