People often use drugs or alcohol for a variety of different reasons, such as: curiosity or experimentation, peer pressure, for a sense of relaxation and pleasurable euphoria or the numbing effect that helps to ease physical or emotional pain.
Among persons aged 12 or older, the rate of current cigarette use was associated with county type in 2005. The rates of cigarette smoking were 29.4 percent in less urbanized nonmetropolitan areas, 29.2 percent in urbanized nonmetropolitan areas, 25.7 percent in small metropolitan areas, and 23.3 percent in large metropolitan areas. The rate for completely rural nonmetropolitan counties in 2005 was also 23.3 percent.
A drug intervention is a process that helps an individual to recognize the extent of their substance abuse problem. Individuals that have a drug or alcohol addiction generally are not aware that the substance abuse problem is out of control.
Residential drug rehab treatment offers intensive drug abuse recovery help over a period of weeks or months. This form of treatment has some distinct advantages over out-patient treatment, although it may not always be the answer for everyone.
