It often seems like the people who abuse drugs are the very persons who lack the most important information about drug abuse; having the information might possibly make them question their life-styles.
Rates of substance dependence or abuse were associated with current employment status in 2008. A higher percentage of unemployed adults aged 18 or older were classified with dependence or abuse (19.0 percent) than were full-time employed adults (10.2 percent) or part-time employed adults (11.0 percent).
Physical effects of Dilaudid can include nausea, vomiting, insensitivity to pain, contraction of the pupils, constipation, sweating, itchy skin, and slowed breathing.
In 2005, 15.5 percent of teens aged 12 to 17 indicated that they had been approached by someone selling drugs in the past month, similar to the 16.3 percent reported in 2004. Teens who reported being approached by someone selling drugs, compared with those who reported no such approaches, were much more likely to have used an illegal drug in their lifetime (61.3 vs. 21.5 percent), in the past year (51.2 vs. 14.1 percent), and in the past month (32.6 vs. 5.8 percent).
Among persons aged 12 or older, boys were nearly twice as likely as girls (17.1 vs. 9.2 percent) to drive under the influence of alcohol in the past year.
Among young adults aged 18 to 25, there were decreases from 2006 to 2007 in the rate of current use of several drugs, including cocaine (from 2.2 to 1.7 percent), Ecstasy (from 1.0 to 0.7 percent), stimulants (from 1.4 to 1.1 percent), methamphetamine (from 0.6 to 0.4 percent), and illegal drugs other than marijuana (from 8.9 to 8.1 percent).
