The percentages of persons aged 12 or older with dependence on or abuse of illegal drugs remained the same between 2007 (2.8 percent) and 2008 (2.8 percent) and were stable between 2002 (3.0 percent) and 2008. During the 7-year period, the percentages of persons with dependence on or abuse of alcohol remained stable as well (7.7 percent in 2002, 7.5 percent in 2007, and 7.3 percent in 2008).

The ultimate goal of any type of quality prescription drug rehab treatment should be to enable the individual to achieve long term abstinence from drug use. The short term goal is to help the individual through detox and withdrawal from drugs in addition to improving their ability to function in society again.
