The number and percentage of current nonmedical users of psychotherapeutic drugs in 2008 (6.2 million or 2.5 percent) were lower than in 2007 (6.9 million or 2.8 percent).
Among 12 to 17 year olds who had past year MDE in 2008, 37.4 percent had used illegal drugs during the same period. This was higher than the rate of 17.2 percent among teens who did not have past year MDE.
