Interesting Facts and Statistics:

Among teens aged 12 to 17, the current illegal drug use rate remained stable from 2006 (9.8 percent) to 2007 (9.5 percent). Between 2002 and 2007, youth rates declined significantly for illegal drugs in general (from 11.6 to 9.5 percent) and for marijuana, cocaine, hallucinogens, LSD, Ecstasy, prescription-type drugs used nonmedically, pain relievers, stimulants, methamphetamine, and the use of illegal drugs other than marijuana.

If Xanax and other types of benzodiazepines are taken in high doses for longer than a couple of months, the individual can experience both a psychological and a physical addiction to the medication.

Prescription drugs are generally seen as safer than illegal drugs in the United States; the excess consumption of these pharmaceutical drugs under medical direction may have lead to addiction and a higher degree of non-medical use.

There are five main ways that drugs can be detected in a user: urine, blood, hair, saliva, and sweat. Testing the individual?s urine is generally the most common method that is used, likely because it is less expensive and intrusive than taking blood.

In 2008, there were 1.1 million persons aged 12 or older who had used hallucinogens for the first time within the past 12 months. This estimate was not significantly different from the estimate in 2007, but was higher than the estimate for 2003 (886,000).

The generic form of the drug is stamped with the imprint "Watson 387", hence this is including among street names for Vicodin; another popular street name is "Vikes".
