Interesting Facts and Statistics:

Because of its availability and intense effects, crack cocaine has grown in popularity.

The excessive release of dopamine and stimulation of the reward system as a result of opiate use can lead to addiction.

Teens aged 12 to 17 were asked a number of questions related to the extent of support, oversight, and control that they perceived their parents exercised over them in the year prior to the survey. In 2008, among teens aged 12 to 17 enrolled in school in the past year, 79.3 percent reported that in the past year their parents always or sometimes checked on whether or not they had completed their homework, and 70.2 percent reported that their parents limited the amount of time that they spent out with friends on school nights. Both of these rates reported in 2008 were similar to those reported in 2007 and remained statistically unchanged from the rates reported in 2002. However, in 2008, 80.0 percent reported that their parents always or sometimes provided help with their homework, which was similar to the rate in 2007 (80.9 percent) but was lower than the rate in 2002 (81.4 percent).

Possible drug use during treatment must be something that is monitored continuously. Lapses to drug have been known to occur during drug rehab treatment. The objective monitoring of a patient's drug and alcohol use during the treatment process, such as through urine analysis or other tests, can help the patient withstand strong urges to use drugs. Such monitoring can help to provide early evidence of drug use so that the individual's treatment plan can be appropriately adjusted.

Individuals who go through medically assisted withdrawal while in rehab to minimize discomfort but do not receive any further treatment generally have performed about the same in terms of their Dilaudid abuse as those who never attended a drug rehab.

In 2006, rates of substance dependence or abuse for persons aged 12 or older showed evidence of differences by region, with the West (10.2 percent) and Midwest (10.0 percent) having higher rates than the South (8.5 percent) and Northeast (8.4 percent). However, rates for substance dependence or abuse among persons aged 12 or older in 2006 did not vary significantly by county type (9.4 percent in large metropolitan counties, 9.0 percent in small metropolitan counties, and 8.9 percent in nonmetropolitan counties).
