Grand Prairie, Texas

Introduction to Grand Prairie, Texas

Grand Prairie is a Texas city located in Dallas County between the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth. Only 14 miles west of Dallas and 15 miles east of Fort Worth, the city is bisected by the western fork of the Trinity River. Interstate Highways I-20 and I-30 service Grand Prairie, which is also accessible to Texas State Highways 161 and 360. Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport lies just five minutes north of Grand Prairie.

Originally an Indian Trading Post and a stop on the stage coach line from Dallas to Fort Worth, the community founded in 1863 was known as Dechman, named for its founder Alexander McRae Dechman. In 1877, its name was changed to Grand Prairie and in 1902 Grand Prairie became incorporated as a city. A significant milestone in the city's history occurred in 1928 with the construction of Hensley Field on 300 acres two miles east of Grand Prairie's city limits. The field became the site for all army operations in Dallas and led to the arrival of the Naval Reserve Aviation Base in 1940 and a federally operated defense plant, North American Aviation, in 1941. In the ensuing decades, prominent industries included the production of aircraft and aircraft parts, plastics, and machine parts. Tourism also rose in prominence as an industry because of the Grand Prairie's proximity to popular attractions in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area.

Grand Prairie Points of Interest

One of Grand Prairie's most notable attractions is Lone Star Park, a horse racing track which first opened its doors in 1997. The track offers both thoroughbred and quarter-horse racing and is home to Lone Star Million Day, a thoroughbred event held each Memorial Day with seven stakes races. Adjacent to Lone Star Park is the state-of-the-art Nokia Theatre, a 28.5-acre live entertainment venue which hosts numerous concerts, musical acts, shows, and family events annually. One of Texas' newest lakes is Joe Pool Lake, a popular venue for fishing, boating, and swimming set among the hills of south Grand Prairie. The lake’s Lynn Creek Park is ideal for picnicking and also includes beaches and a playground.

Within minutes of Grand Prairie are several area attractions which regularly attract tourists to the region. Among these are the following:

  • Six Flags Over Texas
  • Sharkarosa Wildlife Ranch
  • Dallas Zoo
  • Fort Worth Stockyards
  • Conspiracy Museum
  • Dallas Arboretum
  • Cavanaugh Flight Museum
  • Grapevine Mills

Do you live in Grand Prairie, Texas and have an addiction to drugs or alcohol? Is someone you know or care about battling drug or alcohol addiction and needs help? Drug and alcohol addiction exists everywhere in society today, and when an individual is caught up in addiction it can seem that there is no way out. There is in fact a way out, and it can be found at an Alcohol Treatment or Drug Rehabilitation Facility in Grand Prairie.

An Alcohol Rehab or Drug Treatment Center in Grand Prairie treats drug addiction and alcoholism by teaching the individual how to overcome problems in life with real solutions, and that drugs and alcohol are not the answer. This can empower the individual, and put them in a position to start winning and achieving their goals. The end result of treatment at a Drug Treatment or Alcohol Rehabilitation Center in Grand Prairie would be the individual being able to work their way through life and its obstacles, without the need or desire to use drugs or alcohol.

Due to the varying needs of individuals seeking treatment, there are a number of treatment programs available in Grand Prairie to care for someone addicted to drugs and/or alcohol. There are Short-term Drug Treatment Facilities, Inpatient Addiction Recovery, Long-term Drug and Alcohol Rehab Centers, Outpatient Drug Treatment Centers, support group meetings, drug counseling, halfway houses and sober living.

Treatment at a Drug Rehab or Alcohol Treatment Center in Grand Prairie will hone in on the two main causes of addiction, physical and psychological. Over time, the individual's brain adapts to the use of a psychoactive substance, lessening the effect of the drug. Physical tolerance develops as a result. The person ends up having to take more and more drugs or alcohol to try and get back to that first initial high that got them hooked.

Upon commencing treatment, an individual will address the physical aspect of addiction by taking part in a detoxification program in Grand Prairie, Texas, which will get him through the uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms that are caused by abrupt cessation of a substance. Withdrawal symptoms can typically last for days, weeks or months depending on the type of substance you're dealing with. Heroin withdrawal for example may take quite some time to get through, and is particularly painful. Detoxification along with psychological counseling will get the individual in the right frame of mind to start addressing the psychological issues that are involved with the addiction to drugs or alcohol. This method greatly increases the individual's chances of a successful recovery and prevents relapse.

A Drug Rehab or Alcohol Rehabilitation Facility in Grand Prairie, TX. offers a sane environment that is conducive to a successful recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. The individual will be taught how to properly handle life situations and control their own behavior in response to their environment. When the individual returns home following treatment, he will do so with a new mindset on how to engage with friends, family etc. The influences which may have triggered addiction in the individual will not have the same power over him. As part of treatment the individual will have addressed these psychological stressors as a priority and they will no longer have an effect on him.

Studies have shown that an individual who is addicted to drugs and alcohol shows changes in their brain, specifically the way it functions and responds to situations. This is an important reason that professional help at a Drug Rehabilitation or Alcohol Treatment Facility in Grand Prairie, TX. is the best option to try and beat addiction.

Someone who is caught up in the destructive cycle of addiction is up against a lot, the odds may seem against him. But they aren't if he pursues treatment at a Drug Rehab or Alcohol Treatment Program in Grand Prairie, TX. Treatment exists so that the addict is given the best chance at a successful recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. There is hope for you or someone you care about. Addiction has a cure, and treatment at an Alcohol Treatment or Drug Rehab Program in Grand Prairie is that cure. Don't wait another minute to get the help you deserve.
