Did You Know? ... Interesting Facts and Statistics:
One of the most important things that should be addressed in drug treatment is how the addict can begin to repair past damage they may have caused others, in addition to planning a strategy for their futures.
Inhalant users may experience a sense of euphoria, dizziness and sometimes become violently ill and sometimes experience numbness in the upper and lower extremities. Many "huffers" often describe the feeling of being outside their body.
Over time heroin users develop a tolerance for the drug. Heroin users find themselves needing increasingly larger doses of the drug to achieve the same intensity or effect they experienced when they first began using heroin.
Among the 5.4 million adults with both SPD and substance dependence or abuse (i.e., a substance use disorder) in 2007, nearly half (46.5 percent) received mental health care or substance use treatment at a specialty facility; 10.4 percent received both mental health care and specialty substance use treatment, 33.3 percent received only mental health care, and 2.8 percent received only specialty substance use treatment.
Current illegal drug use rates remained stable from 2005 to 2006 among teens aged 12 to 17. However, rates of current use declined significantly from 2002 to 2006 for any illegal drug and several specific drugs (including marijuana, hallucinogens, LSD, Ecstasy, prescription-type drugs used nonmedically, pain relievers, tranquilizers, and the use of illegal drugs other than marijuana). For any illegal drug use, the rates were 11.6 percent in 2002, 11.2 percent in 2003, 10.6 percent in 2004, 9.9 percent in 2005, and 9.8 percent in 2006.
Prior to seeking drug rehab treatment, many individuals who have a substance abuse problem will find that they are unable to quit using on their own. Often times, they become discouraged by their inability to resist the strong cravings that they experience while trying to get clean. Drug rehab treatment provides those who have drug or alcohol addiction with the stability and professional guidance in order to help them through the rough spots on their path to recovery.
