Interesting Facts and Statistics:

Approximately 2 million Americans surveyed in 2008 that were over the age of 12 reported using inhalants within the past year.

Among pregnant women aged 15 to 44, an estimated 11.8 percent reported current alcohol use, 2.9 percent reported binge drinking, and 0.7 percent reported heavy drinking. These rates were significantly lower than the rates for nonpregnant women in the same age group (53.0 percent, 23.6 percent, and 5.4 percent, respectively). Binge drinking during the first trimester of pregnancy dropped from 10.6 percent in combined 2003?2004 data to 4.6 percent in combined 2005-2006 data. All of the current estimates for pregnant women are based on data averaged over 2005 and 2006.

In 2008, approximately one in nine teens aged 12 to 17 (11.1 percent) reported that they had participated in drug, tobacco, or alcohol prevention programs outside of school in the past year. This rate was similar to the 11.3 percent reported in 2007, but was lower than the rates reported in 2002 (12.7 percent) and 2003 (13.9 percent). The prevalence of past month use of illegal drugs, marijuana, cigarettes, or binge alcohol use among those who participated in these prevention programs outside of school was not significantly lower (8.9 percent, 5.6 percent, 8.0 percent, or 7.5 percent, respectively) than among those who did not (9.2 percent, 6.7 percent, 9.2 percent, or 8.9 percent, respectively).

Crystal methamphetamine typically resembles small fragments of shiny whit pebbles and rocks in a variety of different sizes.

The sudden withdrawal of morphine by long term heavily dependent users could be fatal, although morphine withdrawal is considered to be less dangerous than alcohol withdrawal.

In more hopeful news, a recent survey of high school juniors and seniors found that 78% felt that heroin was "too great a risk" to try.
